The Fathers and Mothers in the Lives of Youth (F.A.M.I.L.Y.) study aims to understand the parenting experiences of African American fathers and mothers as well as how both mothers and fathers contribute to positive youth development. This study is supported by a research grant from the the National Science Foundation (NSF).
Who is Eligible to Participate?
African American families who meet the following criteria:
Have a child who is in middle school (6th, 7th, or 8th) OR will be starting the 6th grade in the upcoming school year
Both father and mother agree to participate in the study
Parents (mother or father) can live inside or outside of the home (together or apart)
What do you have to do?
Fathers, mothers, and adolescents will complete a 60-minute survey once during each school year for two years. As a token of our appreciation, families will be compensated ($95 – year 1; $110 – year 2) for their participation in the research study.
